The Giant's Causeway is one of Irelands few Unesco world heritage sites. The rock formations at the Giants causeway are very rare throughout the world and the causeway is probably the best example. It consists of 40,000 hexagonal interlocking columns which were formed by extensive volcanic activity over 50 million years ago with rapid cooling of the lava causing the formation of the hexagonal shapes. Every location in Ireland is interlinked with myths and fables and the Giants causeway is no exception as you can guess by the name. There are many features that also are intertwined with myths such as the Giants boot and the chimney stacks.
